For years I’ve wanted to write something about overcoming fear and, for years, I haven’t had a clue what to write. But today, during my daily devotions, it hit me like a brick and the Lord just put it on my heart to stop and begin writing - right then and there!

Fear, as many of you know, is the number one reason that the majority of people who walk the face of this earth choose a life of mediocrity. For many, it is an insurmountable obstacle with too many risks to even try to escape. The masses of society live day to day bound by the fear that enslaves them. Most people are secretly disappointed with the lives that they live, but will never admit it. They measure themselves up against others and, as you sink lower and lower into the pit, you just find someone not doing as well as you to make everything all right.

The vision that most people have created is to be just a little better than someone else. Have you ever heard someone say, “I’m not an alcoholic. I only drink on the weekends, but John goes to happy hour ever day” or “We’re not doing so bad. At least I can figure out a way to get my car payment made.” These thoughts and other like them are what go through the minds of people who have settled for mediocrity.

We’ve all had grand visions of what we wanted out of life. We have allowed our circumstances and others around us to steal our vision for the greatness we are capable of.

Below are the qualities I believe a person who overcomes mediocrity and makes their vision a reality must possess. I also challenge each of us, including myself, to strive for our vision:

1) A good attitude. If you are pessimistic and believe that everything is going to fall apart, why would you ever take a step toward your vision? A positive attitude gives life to a vision; a negative attitude kills it. My challenge - look at yourself and get rid of any negative thoughts. Turn them into positives and reflect on the positive thoughts when you catch yourself thinking negatively.

2) Belief in yourself. If you don’t believe in yourself, why should anyone else believe in you? My challenge – look at the things you wish to accomplish and have confidence that you CAN do them. If you need to take steps to make your visions a reality (i.e. more knowledge or education, making better choices, etc), then start those steps today. Don’t put off until tomorrow what can be done today!

3) Willingness to grow. The fact of the matter is that none of us are capable of carrying out our grand visions in our current state. We need to be stretched and have to allow it to happen. Stretching is oftentimes painful as we go through it; however, it makes us stronger and better. My challenge - let your desire to be better exceed your desire to avoid the painful stretching called growth. World class athletes put themselves through excruciating pain during their workouts because they know it will pay off and they’ll be better athletes for it. If they opted to avoid the pain because it hurts, they would also opt to give up their status as world class athletes. Mediocrity is the easy way out!

4) Focus. To overcome your fears, you need to truly know what it is that you are pursuing. You need to have an end in mind and focus on it. My challenge – come up with a plan on how to achieve that end and muster up the determination to follow it. Following a plan isn’t always easy. In fact, most things are never easy the first time we do them. However, the more we do them, the easier they get. Your plan may be difficult to get rolling, but once it starts moving, you’re on your way. It’s like pushing a stalled car. On a flat surface, it takes a lot of work to get the car moving. Your efforts are far greater to get it started compared to the effort needed once it’s moving. On occasion you’ll hit little hills, and sometimes big hills, but if you are determined enough, you will push the car over the hill and get to a point where it rolls by itsel f.

5) Enthusiasm. This is the fuel that gives energy to your vision. If you aren’t excited about your vision, it’s going to die. My challenge - maintain your enthusiasm by exercising all of the items above.

I stated earlier that the Lord put it on my heart to write this, and to write it now. The Lord gave me the vision and, with that vision, He gives the tools to carry it out. When you have a vision, you will also have ALL of the tools available to you. You can either pursue your vision with a good attitude, a belief in yourself, a willingness to grow, focus and enthusiasm or choose a life of mediocrity. Which will your choice be?

The volume, rate, tone, softness, contrast, and pitch can all be varied and have a great connecting effect much more than a written text. Through the vividness of the voice It is easier to feel emotionally closer to the story, the characters, and the author themself.

Isn't it true that the stories we first heard as children were someone reading or telling us a story?

I think it is the unique connection with the author or narrators voice in audio books that make the difference. When listening to an audio book you can just relax and get into the flow of the story without having to actively read and concentrate. It is like having a conversation with a close friend. These are just a few of the reasons that audio books are and will continue to be popular.

Announced today Amazon to purchase Audible.com with final details to be completed in the second quarter of this year.

The last few years Audiobook downloads and sales have increased steadily.

In a recent study Independent research firm Lewis & Clark Research surveyed audiobook publishers during the summer of 2007, analyzing reported consumer sales data from 2006 and comparing current statistics against the previous year’s findings. This year’s survey showed a 6 percent increase over 2005 with audiobook sales now estimated at $923 million

Amazon.com Inc., seeking to expand its digital-content offerings, agreed to acquire audiobook seller Audible Inc. for about $280-300 million. Earlier in 2007, Online retailer Amazon.com Inc. said it acquired Brilliance Audio, a publisher of audiobooks.

It seems that Amazon knows something that perhaps may have previously escaped the attention of a few people.
Maybe it shouldn't be such a BIG surprize after all. Faster internet access, demand for mp3 players, the iphone, and a time

First of all, let's define leadership. To be a leader, one must be able to influence others to accomplish a goal, or an objective. He contributes to the organization and cohesion of a group.

Contrary to what most people believe, leadership is not about power. It is not about harassing people or driving them using fear. It is about encouraging others towards the goal of the organization. It is putting everyone on the same page and helping them see the big picture of the organization. You must be a leader not a boss.

First of all, you have to get people to follow you. How is this accomplished?

People follow others when they see a clear sense of purpose. People will only follow you if they see that you know where you are going. Remember that bumper sticker? The one that says, don't follow me, I'm lost too? The same holds true for leadership. If you yourself do not know where you're headed to, chances are people will not follow you at all.

You yourself must know the vision of the organization. Having a clear sense of hierarchy, knowing who the bosses are, who to talk to, the organization's goals and objectives, and how the organization works is the only way to show others you know what you are doing.

Being a leader is not about what you make others do. It's about who you are, what you know, and what you do. You are a reflection of what you're subordinates must be.

Studies have shown that one other bases of good leadership is the trust and confidence your subordinates have of you. If they trust you they will go through hell and high water for you and for the organization.

Trust and confidence is built on good relationships, trustworthiness, and high ethics.

The way you deal with your people, and the relationships you build will lay the foundation for the strength of your group. The stronger your relationship, the stronger their trust and confidence is in your capabilities.

Once you have their trust and confidence, you may now proceed to communicate the goals and objectives you are to undertake.

Communication is a very important key to good leadership. Without this you can not be a good leader. The knowledge and technical expertise you have must be clearly imparted to other people.

Also, you can not be a good leader and unless you have good judgment. You must be able to assess situations, weigh the pros and cons of any decision, and actively seek out a solution.

It is this judgment that your subordinates will come to rely upon. Therefore, good decision-making is vital to the success of your organization.

Leaders are not do-it-all heroes. You should not claim to know everything, and you should not rely upon your skills alone.

You should recognize and take advantage of the skills and talents your subordinates have. Only when you come to this realization will you be able to work as one cohesive unit.

Remember being a leader takes a good deal of work and time. It is not learned overnight. Remember, also, that it is not about just you. It is about you and the people around you.

So, do you have the drive and the desire to serve required of leaders? Do you have the desire to work cooperatively with other people? Then start now. Take your stand and be leader today.

But you must take responsibility for your happiness and your unhappiness, your successes and your failures, your good times and your bad times. When you stop blaming, you can take that energy and redirect to focus on creating a better situation for yourself. Blaming only ties up your energy.

It’s also time to stop complaining.

Look at what you are complaining about. Really examine it. More than likely it is something that you can do something about.

Are you unhappy about something that is happening? Make requests that will make it more desirable to you, or take the steps to change it yourself. Making a change might be uncomfortable to you. It might mean you have to put in more time, money, and effort. It might mean that someone gets upset about it. It might be difficult to change or leave a situation, but staying put is your choice so why continue to complain? Face the facts that you can either do something about it or not. It is your choice and you have responsibility for your choices.

Successful people take 100% responsibility for the thoughts they think, the images that visualize and the actions they take.

They don't waste their time and energy blaming and complaining. They evaluate their experiences and decide if they need to change them or not. They face the uncomfortable and take risks in order to create the life they want to live.

Taking responsibility requires you to first decide to believe that you create all your experiences. Second, to pay attention to yourself, your behavior, and your life experiences. And last, to face the truth and deal with what is not working in your life. You have to be willing to change your behavior if you want a different outcome. You have to be willing to take the risks necessary to get what you want.

Isn’t it a great relief to know that you can make your life what you want it to be? Isn’t it wonderful that your successes do not depend on someone else?

Commit to taking 100% responsibility for your every aspect of your life. Decide to make changes, one step at a time. Once you start the process you’ll discover it is much easier to get what you want by taking control of your thoughts, your visualizations, and your actions!

The Secret Movie's history begins with creator-Rhonda Byrne. She is not only the producer of the film "The Secret," but she is the inspiration behind it. Rhonda says she stumbled on what she calls The Secret at the end of 2004. Rhonda's life had fallen apart—physically, emotionally and financially—and she was in "total despair." Then her father died suddenly, and she was worried about her grief-stricken mother. "I wept and wept and wept, and I didn't want my daughter to see me sobbing," Rhonda says.

That's when Rhonda's daughter gave her a copy of 'The Science of Getting Rich,' a book written in 1910 by Wallace D. Wattles. Is this guy just a liitle bit too Perfect? That's what I thought when I first saw him. I mean look at this guy- his great looking suits, beaming white smile, beautiful wife, postive attitude. What a total turn-off. Really, I actually thought oh man- look at this guy what next. Maybe it was my own inadequieces coming out there. Should it matter that this guy appears to have it all together? Granted MR. Osteen is pretty smooth and he was too much for me at first, but he won my over in just watching him a couple times.

I like listening to him now and have read his book " Your Best Life Now" I especially think that anyone can gain some good insights about having faith and speaking positively.

Am I "really" as motivated as I thought?

I Had the stange feeling yesterday that I am not nearly as motivated as I thought. You know I have all these great ideas about all the things I want to do, and the things I want to have and somehow there was a place that thought that was pretty good- you know. But what does that mean? I wasn't really doing anything, progressing, moving forward. Yep, I had a BIG SLAP IN THE FACE yesterday.

In a short break from my non-acheiving state, I ran across a program about OPRAH. Have you ever heard of her, she has a TV show. I'll give you the condensed version. It was a program about her geneology. In short using the records they had, historical information, modern technology and DNA analysis they were able to trace her roots back to a specific local region in Africa and most probably the Capelle tribe,ok pretty amazing all by itself.

As it turns out, one of her great granfathers I think his name was Constantine owned 160 acres of land. This was in about 1870 just a few years after the civil war. How is it that a former negro slave that may not have been able to read or write find the means to own land?

You can imagine that he probably didn't have the CASH. So this is what he did. He
entered into an agreement with the landowner for the purchase of the land. In exchange, he would produce 3800 lbs of cotton. Keep in mind this is still before the invention of the cotton gin.

You have to pick it all with your hands. At the top of the plant there are barbs (like on a rose bush and they tend to go under your fingernails) you have to bend over constantly, and drag around the big bag of the stuff you picked. It's probably a bit WARM out there as well.

I don't know about you, but I think that's alot of cotton. Not sure exactly HOW he pulled that off, but he DID and then he did AGAIN and bought another 80 acres.

My hat's off to any person who can pull off something like that. Yesterday I thought I had motivation, but you know it's time to DO more.
